Experiences in Whitsundays

Whitehaven Beach

whitsundays hotels

Whitehaven Beach is a spectacular seven kilometer stretch of almost pure white sand located on Whitsunday Island. It is accessable by boat from Hamilton Island, Airlee Beach & Shute Harbour. You can join one of the boat tours listed below from either Hamilton Island or the mainland and spend the day relaxing on this beautiful beach.

Whitehaven Beach

You will soon see why Whitehaven is reported to be the most photographed beach in Australia and also why it has won Australia's cleanest beach competition. It is located on the eastern shore of Whitsunday Island, the namesake member of this world class destination that includes 74 islands in all.  Whitehaven Beach can only be accessed by boat, dogs and campers are not allowed.

The sands of Whitehaven Beach consist of 98% silica and are very fine, while the water is clear and blue.  The water is almost always very calm making it a friendly beach for families with children.  Don't forget the sunblock, sunglasses, and wide brimmed hats!  The beach is never crowded and stretches out for several kilometers, so even if there are several tour boats on a particular day, there won't be a crowd.

There are no facilities on Whitehaven Beach.  It is wise to bring fresh water for drinking.  For those who sail on their own, Hamilton Island is fairly near, and is a good place to go for needed supplies.
